The album that spawned a platinum-certified single in “Dollhouse” and gold-certified singles in “Carousel” and “Pity Party” recently earned a new certification of its own.
According to the RIAA, Melanie Martinez’ “Cry Baby” was certified platinum on February 24, 2017.
The certification confirms 1 million in US units. Each unit is equal to 1 album sale, 10 track sales or 1500 track streams.

Back in December, AP 341 cover star Martinez released the music video for her track “Mrs. Potato Head,” which you can watch here.
Plus, fans have plenty of things to be excited about looking ahead to the new year. For those anxiously awaiting new music, Martinez recently caught up with APTV to talk more about what to expect from her upcoming album, which she hopes to release next year. Check out the full interview below.

For some, Valentine’s Day is just another day on the calendar. For others, it’s a holiday they’d just like to pretend doesn’t exist at all. For those who believe in love and magic, however, it’s a day to make grand gestures in love and decorate with all things pink, red, and sparkly.
We decided that this year, we’d join the Valentine’s Day festivities with our own CelebMix Valentines. We picked a few of our favorite celebrities, incorporated some cheesy pick-up lines, and decided to fond over how impeccable they are. We hope you enjoy them!
Here are three reasons why Melanie Martinez would make the perfect Valentine this February 14th.
1. She’s Unique
One thing you can’t deny about Melanie is that she isn’t afraid to do her own thing- whether that be through her music, her fashion, or her music videos. She knows what she likes and goes through with it, regardless of what others may think. Her concept album Cry Baby was a bold move, but its one-of-kind theme and aesthetic really paid off. It also takes some guts to dye half of your hair a different colour! And we know it’s almost as cheesy as the pickup line above, but being unapologetically yourself is the most attractive thing you can do.
Melanie Martinez earns her first platinum certification from the RIAA.
Last December, “Dollhouse” became the first Melanie Martinez single to earn a gold certification in the United States.
Late last week, it became the first Melanie Martinez to reach platinum status.
Issued by the RIAA on December 1, the platinum certification confirms 1 million in US units. Each unit is equal to 1 paid download or 150 streams.

Melanie Martinez does not want to talk about a certain television show today — or ever, really.
“OK, are we done?” she interjects impatiently, just as I’m starting to gush about how Season 3 of The Voice — on which Melanie made the top six semifinals when she was just 16 years old — was by far the best season in the singing show’s history, in large part because of Martinez’s gutsy, game-changing performances. “You’re talking an awful lot about The Voice…”
It’s understandable that the Gothic/indie chanteuse, now age 21, would like to put her Voice past behind her. She has accomplished so much since then. She’s a bona fide phenomenon. Her ambitious full-length debut, Cry Baby — a concept album of spooky, tinkling carnival-pop that has drawn comparisons to Lana Del Rey, Björk, and Lorde — has gone gold with hardly any radio play or traditional media promotion, and it’s on track to hit platinum status in a few weeks. She’s graced the cover of Alternative Press; her imaginative and haunting original music videos, conceived and often directed by Martinez herself, have racked up a combined 730 million YouTube views; she has played legitimate rock festivals like Lollapalooza, Voodoo, and Beach Goth (the latter on a bill featuring Patti Smith, James Blake, and Tricky); and she recently sold out a headlining show at Los Angeles’s 6,300-capacity Shrine Auditorium.
This interview even takes place as she phones from a car whisking her to a live-streamed New York City launch event for her Cry Baby Milk perfume, the first fragrance to be released in association with a record label. Perhaps no other reality contestant besides Nashville Star alum Miranda Lambert has been so successful in breaking away from the reality-television machine.
After the release of her debut studio album, Cry Baby in 2015, Melanie Martinez has spent her 2016 celebrating the success of her album and the growth of her fan base. Cry Baby was the birth of a character and story in Melanie’s world but also the birth of who she is as an artist.
Melanie kicked off the year by releasing the song “Gingerbread Man” as a gift to her fans. Then she kicked off her Cry Baby 2016 Tour in late February! Melanie added multiple installments to the tour all throughout the world including the UK, AUS, and NZ. Unfortunately, she did end up having to cancel her last few dates due to illness. However, she did promise to prioritize those areas when she is back on the road.
Melanie’s singles have been receiving lots of love this year as well! Pity Party has been certified Gold in the U.S. while Dollhouse has been certified Platinum in the U.S. by the RIAA. She has also promised to make a music video for EVERY song on the album and this year she released many cinematic masterpieces, most of which she directed herself! Here is a list of music videos she released this year:
Looks like all that’s left is the music video for “Mad Hatter”: Melanie has said the bonus songs on the deluxe version are not a part of the Cry Baby Story so she may not make music videos for those tracks but we can only hope! She did however, release an EP called Cry Baby’s Extra Clutter in late November. It is a compilation of her deluxe songs on a physical vinyl, including “Gingerbread Man”.
To end her amazing year with a bang, in late November Melanie announced her debut fragrance, Cry Baby Perfume Milk! She released a commercial for the perfume that is just as hauntingly beautiful as her music videos. The bottle is in the shape of a baby’s bottle and is said to smell sweet and nostalgic.
Samples of the perfume were released in any order in her official web store or with her cover issue on AP Magazine!
